Erica epitomizes the relationships we strive to develop with our customers. She came to us looking for a florist when she worked for The San Diego Chargers. We have now had many wonderful seasons providing beautiful florals for the team, the owners and press boxes, the cheerleaders buffet and other locations for every home game. Go Chargers!
Erica has always been so positive and easy to work with. She buys flowers from us for her mother and friends and when it was time to tie the knot she called on us. We couldn't have asked for a better bride. Her husband uses Florabella to send her flowers and friends and family ordered from us when Erica gave birth to her beautiful baby girl. This is what every florist hopes for: customers who come to us as their 'go to' florist for every aspect of their life. We were absolutely blown away by the fabulous Somewhere by Matthew Lopez. It runs through the end of this month so please, please, please go see this world premiere play at the Old Globe's Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre. You know the one - every seat is a winner in this very small theatre in the round. We loved the dancing, the family dynamics, the lies and betrayals. The acting was strong, the story believable and getting to see Priscilla Lopez again was beyond wonderful. She is incredible! This show made us So Happy, as great theater should. Even when it makes you cry, even if the ending needs work. Just happy to be alive and sharing the experience.

After working eight straight days of 12-14 hour shifts in preparation for Valentine's Day Florabella came in this morning to find that a pop-up flower stand has set up shop across the street from us. So sad that this kind of aggressive business practice has come to sweet little University Heights. We are a small boutique florist and rely on holidays like this to help us cover our expenses during the lean months. Is it fair? Is it proper? We went over to talk to the lady setting up shop and were told "It's just business." We think about that a lot around here. "It's just business" usually means 'I'm about to do something lame to you but I want a pass because it's not personal.' Nothing could be more personal to us than this Business that we put our heart and soul in to every day. Please support your local, neighborhood florist on this holiday - the ones who are there for you year in and year out.

We apologize for the lapse in posting. Technology bested us last week when we lost several awesome images intended for the blog including some beautiful shots of a wild, grassy, summer sunflower party for The Hilton Gaslamp. We also lost photos of a gorgeous new lavender rose variety called 'Boyfriend'. The color reminiscent of our old friend the Sterling Silver Rose - people ask for that all the time. Sorry folks, rose varieties come and go but we do hope our new Boyfriend is here to stay.

Among the digital casualties was an image of a floral arrangement we sent to a young woman at Bourbon Street from her petite amie. Working late last Friday night, finishing up the Chargers and another summer party, a girl rushed in, late to work, but wanting to send flowers to her girlfriend. We put together an adorable, little bubble bowl, something sweet and gardeny with roses, gerberas, cymbidium and stock. A simple expression of love from one heart to another.

We later found out that the recipient had never.... ever.... ever! received flowers ..... from anyone.... ever. Ever!! She was so touched, so grateful. This simple, kind act of love meant so much to her - the flowers a tangible proof of that love. The arrangement was out on display for all to see and she was simply lit up - ear to ear.

I keep thinking about the first time I received flowers (from my parents, at school, for my 12th birthday) What it meant to me. How special it made me feel. I wore a kimono to school that day (?!) and I have a Polaroid of myself with all my classmates, in my San Francisco kimono with my flowers and birthday balloons. I'm absolutely beaming - this big, stupid smile I get on my face when I'm not consciously controlling my mouth, when the joy is pure and cannot be contained.

That is what it means - why we do what we do.

We are so excited for Eddie and Priscilla's wedding tomorrow. They are totally creative and have been such a blast to work with. Priscilla's ideas complement our style beautifully. We love it when we have the opportunity to use the bride's vision as a starting point and then take off on our own creative adventure. Priscilla has been open and trusting from the beginning. It's going to be a beautiful day!

Also, we can't wait to set up the reception florals at The Sushi Gallery tomorrow - just want to be there, doing it, Right Now!!! Super impatient to see how it all turns out! We decided to go with a 'before & after' theme for this post so you can see how the raw materials are transformed, during the design process, into something new entirely. Stay tuned...........

p.s. How adorable, really?! Priscilla brought in all these vintage hankies for us to use as wrapping for the bouquets. Man are we excited to see the season finale on this one!
